FAQ for Recruiters:

Do you have former students that we can hire?

One reason that you are here is because Crystal Reports skills are in demand, and not easy to locate.
My classes are often held on-site, so most of my students are already employed.  I don't solicit employed students.
However, I often develop contacts through public classes, computer forums and newsgroups.
I also have some associates who would like to sell their time for short or long term consulting assignments.
If you want me to follow up with some of these contacts you must do some homework and provide the following information.

1) What are the job requirements?

Half of the Crystal experts out there are NOT programmers.
Yet, most of the calls I get are from recruiters who need a PROGRAMMER that knows how to use Crystal.
So, before you call me, find out what languages they need to know (if any) in addition to Crystal.
Many employers don't realize is that it is relatively easy to train a programmer to use Crystal.
(Usually easier than it is to hire a programmer who already knows it.)
2) How much does the job pay?
Don't waste my time with "depending on experience".   If you can't give me a reasonable range based on 1 year of experience, call someone else.
Specify if this is a short term contract (weeks), long term contract (months) or a permanently hired employee.
Also, many of my folks are willing to travel for contract work, so make sure you know what travel expenses are offered, if any.
3) How much effort do you want me to put into this? In other words, what commission, if any, can I expect if I provide you with a prospect that gets hired?

Be prepared to provide clear answers to these three questions when you contact me as a recruiter.

How about you, Ken, are you interested in a job or a long term consulting contract?

There are 3 reasons why I don't take most intermediate or long term contract offers:
1) Most of the contract work for Crystal pays half (or less) of what I usually charge for training and hourly consulting.
2) Long term projects don't often fit well with my business model.
3) Long term projects usually require significant programming experience in VB or C and I focus on Crystal Reports primarily.

However, if your customer wants to train a new hire or if your prospect wants to get some quick Crystal training, give me a call.
